The DA Form 1380, also known as the Army Reserve Record of Individual Performance of Reserve Duty Training, is used to document a soldier's performance during Reserve training. This includes both paid and non-paid duties and training outside of regular Inactive Duty Training (IDT) battle assemblies.
Several individuals may be responsible for preparing the DA Form 1380, depending on the type of training:
-
The chief of the proponent agency for approved training projects.
-
The designated military representative for attendance at conventions.
-
The commanding officer for training in an attached status.
-
The soldier for training attachments with another service, pending signature from an authorized official.
-
The area commander for all other Reserve training.
The DA Form 1380 should be prepared by the last day of each duty month. This ensures timely submission to the appropriate pay channels or the Army Human Resources Command (AHRC) for non-paid inactive duty training.
Key information includes:
-
Date of duty performed.
-
Hours of training or instruction.
-
Location and nature of the duties performed.
-
Type of duty (paid or non-paid) and corresponding retirement points.
-
Signature of an officer verifying the duties performed.
In Item 9 of the form, you will check the appropriate box to indicate the type of duty. You must also cite the documentary authority from Table 2-3 of AR 140-185 for the training reported. This helps clarify whether the duty was equivalent, suitable, or another type.
Once validated by DFAS for paid duties or AHRC for non-paid duties, the award of retirement points is processed. The unit must then annotate the form accordingly and ensure it is filed and submitted to the soldier's Army Military Human Resource Record (AMHRR).
Are there any exceptions to the retirement points rule?
Yes, there are exceptions. For funeral honors and preauthorized conferences, soldiers may earn one retirement point per day, regardless of the usual rules governing paid and non-paid periods.
Additional information can be found in AR 140-185, which outlines the guidelines and procedures for using the DA Form 1380. For specific questions, you may also contact the appropriate personnel at DFAS or AHRC.
